Laboring now

I have a lady laboring beautifully and naturally. She was 6 cms when she was last checked 6 hours ago. She's intact. Anyone wanna bet she's still 6cms?????

Nope...is she a prime? I would never be 6 cm for hours, but was 9 for hours because baby was OP. I bet she's further along by now. Just guessing.

Poor thing would be AROM'd and pitted where I work, if there was no progress after less time than 6 hrs.

She is a primip. See the next post for the conclusion.

AYC - if she had a doctor here she would have gotten the same treatment. I'm trying to learn to be a little more patient with labors. I have had a lot of these in the last 2-3 weeks - patients going natural, getting stalled at advanced dilatations, AROM not working, etc. That's why I was willing to wait so long for AROM - because I knew we would definitely be on a timeline at that point.

I'm not saying that I agree with such aggressive measures where I work! I am all for working with her body, to have her body work at it's own pace. I've noticed that if things aren't progressing, there is some reason - fetal positioning, fetal size, maternal exhaustion, an emotional issue with mom, etc. Resolve the problem, and labor progresses again. Push the labor with pit and AROM, without addressing the underlying issue, and you have FTP and a c/s.
