Interesting placenta

I had a fabulous lady who VBAC'ed recently. No fetal issues at all throughout the labor - baby looked beautiful. No unusual history with mom. But this placenta appears to have an infarcted lobe...I thought it was cool having never seen such a thing so got permission to take pictures. The lobe is black almost to the base. Check this out...

Interesting... do you think the rest was just healthy enough to support baby ok?

Placentas are fascinating!

Yes, the baby looked absolutely beautiful on the monitor, came out with 8-9 apgars, no problems. Go figure.

Very cool. The redundant systems that we have are pretty amazing. How can someone see something like this and NOT believe in some sort of intelligent design theory?!?
