Private

I've been thinking about making this blog private for a while now. I talk about personal stuff on here that's pretty specific so worry that someone will figure out who I am. I think if I made this blog private, I would no longer have that stress about it. I also want to eliminate some people's desire to debate the things I say. That's not what my blog is about. It's the one place I have where I can say whatever I want and don't have to discuss the research, etc.

So what do you think?

Don't do it. This random labor nurse who you don't know rather enjoys reading your blog.

I hope you keep it public. You are one of the reasons I am in nursing school and going into midwifery :)

You write your blog for yourself, and you need to do what is right for you. I've just recently discovered your blog, and as a pregnant woman it is very helpful to see your perspective on childbirth. But ultimately if making this blog private will make you happier, you should do that.

I don't know that I have ever commented here before, but I will miss you if you go private. I have recently become somewhat of a birth story junkie, with no affiliation whatsoever to the medical field so I appreciate that you share stories for what they are and not necessarily for the research to back it up. If you decide to go private, thanks for all the posts you have shared up to now, but know I will miss you.

I think it's ultimately up to you. I would certainly miss your posts if you were to turn the blog private. Do what's right for you, either making your entries more obscure for your own peace of mind or just making them private all together.

If it'll help you sleep better at night, do it. As long as I get a password, because I LOVE your blog!

I'd be sad since I really like reading your blog and I don't know you IRL :(

Probably a good idea. Or you could keep this one public and put more general things on that you wouldn't mind others knowing, even if they knew who you were, and start a different blog for the private stuff. [And delete the more personal ones from here that might bother people like Nurse Crappy were she to find out about your blog.] And/or close comments on posts that you might attract comments of opposing viewpoints.

I JUST found you (through at your cervix) and finished reading through your archives so OF COURSE I dont want you to leave.

But I understand. And if your talking about people and cytotec meh. Forget them. You are comfortable with it YOU are the medical professional. Although I have only ever read bad stuff about it before I found the studies you showed..

I love reading what you do.. Its what I want to do "when I grow up." I like seeing what I am realistically in for. Is there a way on blogger that you can make certain posts private? Although I do like knowing whats going on with your life and although I am not a pray-er your family is now in my thoughts... I understand that your anonymity is extremely important. In the end its up to you of course but you will be missed.

OH!! And I wanted to tell you So last year I went on this crazy stint and decided to sell essential oils. Like Avon. It amounted to nothing because Im not really dedicated but i get whole sale prices when I have the money to buy them. Which isnt often because of how pure they are they are expensive. Well more expensive than the ones at whole foods. But because of all this I get an email from a message forum and there are several ladies who have claimed that this oil Past Tense is the best thing for their fibromyalgia. Anyway if you are interested this is their website http://www.doterra.com/us/ you have to go to shop for products and then Oil blends. Its in a neat little container all ready to roll on. Just a thought for you...

I enjoy reading what you write (and missed your posts while you were gone). There aren't many regularly updated CNM blogs and I like to see what other CNMs are up to :)

However, it is YOUR blog. If it makes you feel more comfortable to have it private, then that's probably what you should do.

Also - just wanted to say that I totally understand where you're coming from about people wanting to debate (particularly after having read the comments on the previous post). I feel like I'm at the point where I'm going to have to stop reading natural birth blogs and communities altogether because they do not do good things for my blood pressure.

Like you, I feel that I'm a very hands-off, non-interventive, patient-centered midwife who goes above and beyond to try to ensure that my women get the births that they want and I still get flack from both sides. It's frustrating.

I think if it would lower your stress level then by all means do so, you know you have plenty to balance already.

well, i don't know you, and you don't know me (no midwives delivering at my local hospital, so i definitely dont know you but dont know that this blog is you) but i am a birth junkie/brand new student nurse midwife who enjoys reading your blog and would miss it if it went private.
but, you gotta do what you gotta do. if you feel that the repercussions from being discovered would make your work/life highly unpleasant, but you don't want to stop talking about the things you talk about it, then make it by invite only.

Late to the comment party, but don't let the haters get you down. I had to take a blogosphere break, and I tend to delete hateful comments, but the information you are sharing with the birthing community ("natural" or not) is valuable. Not to mention blogging is a great outlet for the frustrations of working in this field. If you do go private, however, you will have me asking for an invite.... :)

I'm pretty late to this as well, but I really hope you don't decide to make the blog private. I have never posted before, but I am currently applying to Grad Entry nursing programs to become a CNM. Your blog has given me the inspiration to know that a family woman can still fulfill her dreams as a wife/mother and her dream for her career. (Not to mention getting a real taste for what I will be doing in the near future!) Please don't go!!

I never have commented before but I really enjoy reading your blog. Your birth stories are empowering and well written. As a mom to be reading blogs like yours gives me a lot of confidence in what I'm doing and helps me to see areas that I need to do some research in. I hope you stay at least semi public.

Yet another frequent reader who doesn't comment. I appreciate your candor about life and midwifery and hospital/healthcare interpersonal politics. Thank you so much for bringing your thoughts out in the open for us lurkers to voyeuristically read. (Wait. That sounds really creepy. There must be a better word than "lurker." And "voyeuristically" for that matter.)

Back to what I was saying. If taking your blog private is what's best for you and your practice/life, then you should definitely do so. However, please give us all a warning so we can plead our cases about receiving an invite to your private blog. (I'm a school nurse, about as harmless as a reader can get, right?)

Recently a few of my favorite blogs have gone private with no warning. I'd hate to lose you, too!

One more thing. I turn off comments on some posts. After all, it's my blog. I get to say what I want and don't have to let anyone answer back.

I would miss your blog. I enjoy reading.

This LDRP RN would miss you as well.

Go private if you feel you must. But please make it possible for this fellow CNM to still access your blog. I think I've worked with Nurse Crappy's sister.

Very late to this party. But I really enjoy this also. I guess I am just a birth junkie, too old to have any more of my own, but still wanting to experience something which was very big in my life. I am a nurse but not an L&D nurse. Jill on Unnecessarian is publishing my birth stories from way back in the 70's and 80's, which would give you some idea who I am. If you decide to make this private, please let me be on your list!
Thanks,
Susan Peterson
